Helium balloon with a message in Nagercoil
As part of Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation Programme (SVEEP), the Election Department launched an illuminated helium balloon near Anna bus stand here on Thursday.
Launching the balloon, District Election Officer and Collector Sajjansingh R. Chavan said that it would help raise awareness of ethical voting.
The balloon, with the mark ‘May 16’ to remind voters of their democratic duty, was launched to ensure 100 per cent voting.
Efforts were also on to get all those above 18 years of age enrolled as voters through students who had been identified as ‘college ambassadors.
’
Various programmes – distribution of pamphlets, screening of awareness documentaries and cultural programmes – were organised by the administration to motivate voters to exercise their franchise without fail, Mr. Chavan said.
The district administration had identified two more places for launching the helium balloon, officials said.
Later, Mr. Chavan administered a pledge to NSS volunteers of Hindu College and flagged off an awareness rally at Elluvilai panhayat union office.
District Revenue Officer S. Elango, Nagercoil Returning Officer and RDO S. Madhiyazhagan, Mahalir Thittam Project Director T. Sadayappa Vinayaka Murthy and others were present.
